The Isidore Tarot Deck is an art collage style tarot that uses whimsical vintage illustrations by J.J. Grandville to recreate the symbolism of the Rider-Waite-Smith tarot deck. Grandville’s characters are turned into new characters with the aid of Victorian era ink illustrations and our shoppe artist’s own pen-work to complete the collages. Each card is given a light color tinting to finish the piece. The idea for the style is based upon Max Ernst’s Une semaine de bonté collection.
The first edition of the Isidore Tarot premiered autumn of 2013. The first deck lacked corner rounding to compliment the original card artwork. The deck was redesigned to allow for corner rounding and a change of printers to create a sturdier card for the next edition. The second edition premiered the spring of 2014 and featured a more unified edition design that featured our dapper hippo and goat couple. This edition was retired at the end of 2017. It is no longer readily available, but the occasional second edition will pop up for sale here and there, especially for our OOAK box packaging or special editions. Please find the current edition of this deck here.
